Youth Baking Challenge Class 2019:
Light Bread (to be customized)
2 Eggs
1/2 Cup of Sugar
6 1/4-6 3/4 Cups of Flour
2 Teaspoons of Salt
1/2 Cup of Shortening
1 Cup of Warm Milk
2 Packages of Yeast
Please enhance this recipe with your own filing!
  1. Place sugar, shortening and salt into mixing bowl.
  2. Add warm milk and stir to soften shortening and let cool.
  3. Using a spoon, beat in eggs.
  4. Dissolve yeast in water and let stand for 5 minutes then stir into shortening mixture.
  5. Add 4 cups of flour and beat with a wooden spoon until smooth.
  6. Add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough.
  7. Turn out flour onto surface and knead in enough remaining flour to make a moderately soft dough that is smooth and elastic.
  8. Place in greased bowl, turning once to greased surface.
  9. Cover and let rise in warm place until it doubles in size (approximately 1 1/4 hours.)  
  10. Punch down dough and let rest for 10 minutes.
  11. Divide dough into 2 halves or 3 thirds and Shape into loaves.
  12. Place into greased loaf pans and let rise until doubled. (approximately 45-60 minutes.)
  13. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 minutes or until golden. Cover with foil for last 5-10 minutes, if necessary to prevent over browning.
  14. Cool on wire rack.
